DESIGN CHALLENGE: T-Fitting
Required: Develop an editable CAD model and STL file for a T shaped water pipe fitting
There are still large numbers of Nepalis living in temporary shelter following the massive earthquake that occured one year ago. Those living in camps generally have their water supplied by gravity feed water fittings - however, lack of appropriate pipe fittings means these systems often leak and become unfit for purpose. Locally available, metal fittings are often used on plastic pipes, but they don't fit, and leak. Often there are not enough of these fittings, and things like plastic bags, strips of rubber and spare bits of pipe are used instead. The consequences are that so much water is lost from the system, residents of the camps cannot get sufficient water at the taps. They improvise, adding their own connections and pipes, but with open pipes and water tanks the system rapidly becomes unsanitary and unsafe.
Field Ready have previously designed and printed a straight connector and implemented it in the field. We are looking to expand the number of designs available, and at the present moment obtain a design for a t-fitting. The t-fitting design should implement or improve upon the key design features of our original pipe fitting (described in the slides below) and be suitable to print in ABS.
CAN I HELP?
Designs are needed to:
be submitted with a CAD file of choice eg. sldprt, and an STL file for printing
be submitted on Thingiverse or equivalent platform
be designed for printing in ABS plastic
include central body, 3 end caps, 3 grab rings and 3 washers (or equivalent)
not include o-ring - we use standard o-rings, and have a 3D printable design for casting o-rings in silicone
be printable without support material

OPENSCAD design allowing for adjustment of key parameters to make for easy resizing to different pipes
